I love playing old time and bluegrass music!! I have performed at many private parties and other social events such as the 88th Tri-State Gospel Singing Convention and I have hosted the Annual SW Virginia Museum's Coffee House. Maggard Sound Studio should be included in the Trail. I grew up working with Charlie in his studio. He has recorded more Appalachian mountain music than anyone I know. I now work in Nashville but I learned to record acoustic instruments from Charle long ago in his studio and cherish those days with all my heart.

I grew up in Duffield but was born in Big Stone Gap. My father was Bill Lane and mother Margaret Marie (Hall) Lane. My father played the guitar and fiddle. I play in a band called the dancin' nancys our music has been described as americana folk rock. We have a CD that came out at the end of last year. Begin learning to play these instruments while a student at Clinch Valley College, Wise, Va. during 1974-78. John McCutcheon was the music teacher during this time. Have made one recording project with Kay Justice titled "Diamonds In The Rough" containing vocals and instrumentals. Haven't played seriously in about 3 years, am beginning to get back into it and want to learn new tunes,songs, etc.

I taught 5-string bluegrass banjo at Mountain Empire, but due to mobility problems, primarily play the guitar. And don't play it fast. I like to record, using multiple tracks, playing different instruments and singing three-part harmony. Five tracks will suffice. However, todays' technology is slanted for electrical instruments, and I can't get a decent recording for acoudtic instruments. I would be interested in a Tube type system, cassette, reel to reel, or otherwise, four tracks minimum with foot-pedal punch-in capabilities, if there's one out there some where.
